Pregnant - Regional Music LP
Label: Life’s Blood
Format: 12” LP
mp3: Uphill Divination
Regional Music is the fourth album from Californian Daniel Trudeau, released late in August by Life’s Blood, a label that I (and many many others) hold in high esteem. It’s their second release with Trudeau, coming at the same time that the label moves from cassette releases to vinyl and 12”s from both Kites Sail High and French Quarter. Outside of some consistently good coverage from Impose Magazine, who debuted Regional Music’s “Uphill Divination” (and recently profiled Life’s Blood, incidentally), Pregnant has been lamentably under the radar. Trudeau’s latest is 11 tracks of jittery indie-pop; a tapestry of excited electronics and acoustic samples, occasionally veering into hip-hop under the guidance of his distinctive vocals. At its best, Regional Music evokes a more energetic and experimental Francois Virot, and the performance is consistent throughout.
